Drifter Studies
In the early fall of 2001 and 2002 we released Lagrangian drifters in the vicinity of the Juan de Fuca eddy.Tracks are shown in the figure below. With the exception of the green track (9/5-11/4/2002) which was drogued at 20 m, all drifters were Davis-type surface drifters. Features evident from the drifter tracks include the southward shelf-break current, the Juan de Fuca eddy and the northward Vancouver Island coastal current.
